With The Book Badger Blog gone and two new books out, what’s on the horizon for children’s author Amanda Silva.
How it Started
In 2019, I wrote my first children’s book, “Nana and Me and the Tree” and hired the very talented Jennica Lounsbury to illustrate it. At the same time, I started my own independent publishing company and children’s book review blog, The Book Badger. In 2020, I created “STOP and Read this Book” an interactive children’s book that uses simple sensory grounding techniques to calm kids down.
The Book Badger Blog
From 2019 I wrote book reviews for my fellow independent children’s authors and curated weekly social media content for my blog at thebookbadger.com. The blog featured independent authors, with features and special activities tailored to their books. The blog grew a following on Instagram and I was able to maintain it successfully for about 2 years.
The End of an Era
In 2022, I made the difficult decision to shutdown thebookbadger.com and focus my energies on other projects and ventures. I’ve since come to regret this decision as there were many aspects of the blog and its respective community that I loved. It is my hope that I can start over a new and grow a brand new community of mm, therapists, teachers who are passionate about children’s mental health.
Side note: As a KDP author, I support the purchase of independently published books from Amazon. As a sales affiliate of Amazon, I am monetarily compensated for purchases made through links on this site. Your clicks and purchases help me stay independently employed, so I may continue to bring great books and content to my followers. Thank you for your support.
Where it’s Going and What’s New
With the Book Badger blog gone and a new site up, here’s what you can expect moving forward:
New Blog
Despite my brief hiatus, it is my intention to start a new blog, this time focusing on children’s mental health, emotional regulation, and techniques for teaching mindfulness to children. This new blog will feature activities and resources that help parents, caregivers, and teachers raise mentally strong kiddos in a world where anxiety and burnout have become commonplace challenges for children.
New Books
In addition to the new blog, I have recently released two new children’s books that focus on mindfulness and calming breathing techniques. “Snail is Slow” and “Stop and Breathe this Book” are available now!
Live Events
Beginning in April of 2025, I will be booking book signings and live readings of “Stop and Breathe this Book”. These events feature fun activities that teach children to be mindful of their breath and give them valuable tools to calm down. These are educational and fun events for parents and kids alike. Please reach out via email if you would like more information about scheduling an event for your school, store, or therapy practice.
More to Come
With a new site up and running, expect more updates, tips, and free printable content coming soon!
